Local Walks
The River Ayr Way passes through local towns and villages which each have their own unique local path networks. 7 local path networks have been developed to enhance and extend the River Ayr Way experience. Take time to visit the path networks around Muirkirk which are excellent for watching wildlife. Muirkirk is also home to the first village audio tour in Scotland which tells of Muirkirk’s rich industrial heritage,bloody Covenanting history and the many famous Scots associated with the village.

Sorn’s local path network takes you around this quaint village which was a Britain in Bloom winner in 2004. Look out for herons, dippers, mallard ducks, sand martins, kingfishers. The village of Catrine is home to East Ayrshire’s first local nature reserve and also boasts a rich industrial heritage.
Visit the village of Mauchline’s local walks to find out more about its most famous resident, our national bard, Robert Burns. Mossblown and Annbank also boast a picturesque network of paths as does Coylton and Tarbolton which is home to the Bachelors Club, founded by Robert Burns and his friends in the 1780′s.
